Nature Photography

Artist's Statement

For as long as I can remember, I have been drawn to the natural world. Growing up in Michigan, I spent countless hours immersed in the fields and woods, exploring, making memories, and observing the intricate details of life around me. These experiences impressed upon me the fact that we live in a miraculous creation, and when we work with nature rather than against it, great things are possible. Despite this, most people remain mentally and physically disconnected from nature and live in ways that do not honor the intimate relationship we have with the very life support system that sustains us. My work invites viewers to take a peek behind the veil and into the secret worlds that exist all around us—and of which we are a part, whether we realize it or not. On behalf of nature, my photos welcome you into this world, not only as a patron of art but as a member and steward of the natural community. My hope is that my images draw attention to the life in our backyards and inspire viewers to make choices that support it, such as planting pollinator-friendly habitats, reducing chemical pesticide use on trees and lawns, and engaging more deeply with the natural world.
