Meet Your Photographer, Sara Srinivasan
Capturing Beautiful Images by Working with Nature
My name is Sara and I am a family & event photographer from Novi, Michigan. I love creating eye-catching images that highlight the beauty of families and children in resplendent natural scenery or during important milestone events.
Photographing families is not so different from what I used to photograph: birds and wildlife, interacting with each other and their environments. It was a great way to train for photographing families in two ways: 1) When it comes to both wildlife and children, you have to work with nature, not against it (and learn all the little tricks to get the types of shots you want). 2) Sometimes, you just need to run, crouch, or climb up a tree to get that perfect shot!
Photography across domains requires both patience and boldness - and lots of small adjustments here and there. After all: "Details make perfection; perfection is not a detail." My obsession with details and love for composing cohesive images make photography a naturally enjoyable practice to me.
Today, my practice still involves a lot of patience and boldness - but this time, I'm focusing on families, documenting milestone events and preserving memories in a beautiful and timeless way for years to come.
Beyond Photography
I have been working in the field of environmental conservation since 2010 and have a background in conservation ecology focused on birds. I have an MS from the University of Michigan School for Environment and Sustainability which is also where I began my foray into photography, documenting the birds, plants, and natural processes I was studying during field research. I am married with three children. I enjoy spending time with my family, reading, cooking Indian food, traveling, native plant gardening, and arts + crafts.

FAQ
Where are you based and do you travel?
I am located in Novi, Northville, and Farmington Hills area. Originally from Rochester and former resident of Detroit and Ann Arbor, I enjoy shooting all around the tricountry/Metro Detroit area. I often travel within this area and sometimes outside, too. Contact me for more details.
What is the experience like?
A typical experience begins by catching up on the phone even before booking just to get an idea of what type of session you are interested in and how we might fit together to make it happen. If you are offered a slot and you decide to book the date, we then discuss payment either on the phone or through text messaging or email. Next comes the fun part - I arrive to capture beautiful and print-worthy photos of your family and loved ones! That is followed up with a lot of "behind the scenes" magic - taking the "straight out of the camera" raw shots and editing them images until they are picture-perfect in my digital darkroom. Most galleries are ready for delivery within 2-3 weeks. If you can't wait, don't worry - you'll get sneak peeks of the best images 24-48 hours after your shoot!
We're excited! When and how will we receive our photos?
For most standard sessions, you will receive an online gallery link with a sneak-peek of the shoot within 48 hours, and the full-set within 2-3 weeks, depending on the type of session. You can download all the photos from the gallery, share them, choose your favorites. You can also purchase additional photos from the shoot which were not included in the package.
How should I dress for my photoshoot?
Tip #1: Don't match - coordinate! Choose a color palette and pick 3-4 complementing colors for everybody to wear. (Another simpler approach is to begin by dressing your youngest, and then pull colors from their outfit to dress and layer everyone else). Tip #2: Highlight your favorite thing! Wether it's your neckline, waistline, unique hair, or beautiful dress or saree, It will give you a boost of confidence during the shoot or event. Tip #3: Nice shoes or sandals make a wonderful finishing touch. If you need help selecting your outfits for the shoot, I'll be happy to help.
Do you offer RAW images?
Many RAW images, or unedited images straight out of the camera, lack the professional touch that is afforded by professional editing and are therefore not considered a professional photographic product. For example, many RAW images are sometimes intentionally underexposed in order to capture certain details in the shadows or for merging details from several images together. Because of this, RAW images generally aren't "share-worthy" which is why I generally do not share them with clients.
